Our History

Our Founders

Royal Cars Banbury was founded as X Cars in 1978 by David Randle and began operating from the Banbury Cross Rank. The company moved to offices George Street and changed its name to Cherwell Cars Banbury.

First Banbury 24-hour private hire service

Cherwell Cars changed ownership and acquired the rights to the famous 5 5s phone number. Cherwell Cars Banbury became the first Banbury 24-hour private hire service in 1982. Over the next 15 years the company grew and grew despite competition from several private hire companies, and during this time became the first taxi company in Banbury to use a computerised booking system.

Longest serving taxi company in the area

In 2008 ArsaIan Ahmed acquired the company from Taj Mohammad who had been the owner operator since 2003. Cherwell Cars Banbury is the longest serving taxi company in the area, and we have achieved this longevity by priding ourselves on offering a professional, reliable, quality service.

Joining Forces

In 2020, Cherwell Cars was sold to Royal Cars which has brought new technology and talent to the company. Royal Cars Banbury is currently expanding and improving is services on a daily basis and are committed to supply the best possible taxi service to Banbury and surrounding areas.
